A Letter To My Thirteen Year Old Self

How's Emjay doing?

I know this is kinda creepy but I'm writing from the future - heya! I'm you only a bit older :D

Just thought Id leave you a couple of advice and hopefully they'll save you some pain..

I'm doing really well if you're wondering. You finally got the much awaited letter from Hogwarts.
So you're somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, in a castle and you got two lovely deer as pets.
LOL kidding aside, yes you will be moving to the Rockies and yes you will work for a castle - a 5 star hotel that is (and yes it  really resemble Hogwarts) and you will have to make some delightful desserts so there goes all the magic you've learned from Culinary school and work! Didn't you say you wanted to be a Chef? *wink*

And if that doesn't sound enticing enough, should I tell you that you were part of a reality show last year! -click-

See! we turned out pretty wicked! which is what this letter is mostly about. I know you've been feeling down lately so here are some things that I want you to keep in mind. :)

1. Life may seem jagged or tedious but always remember that things change sooner than you think. However good or bad a situation is now, it will  surely change!

2. Its not always your fault so don't feel burdened when they tell you you're good for nothing just think about the things you've achieved and oh the places you'll go!

3. Breaking the silence is not an easy task but letting others in isn't too bad. You don't always have to keep it all to yourself. There are people who are willing to listen plus you'll regret not having friends in the future if you keep pushing people away you know.

4.  Crying isn't a sign of weakness, hiding your emotions and pretending to be something you aren't is. Strong people are those who cry momentarily then gets up and fight again. So don't be shy and tell people how you really feel.

5. Other peoples negativity isn't worth worrying about. Only yourself can determine what you can and can't do. Everyone has their own opinions take note "opinions" -  so no need to take things too personally.

6. The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.

7. Be more opinionated who cares what others think, you have every right to your own beliefs. Just because you don't conform to the norm does not make you an outcast. Feel free to question things.. Curiosity might have killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back.

8. Its totally okay not to fit in everyone is different, after all wouldn't it be nice to stand out? So stop trying so hard and just be yourself!

9. Take risks and make mistakes Life is inherently risky, so sometimes you have to gamble, try something new! At the end of the day you will regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did.

10. Learn when to let go. There's a big difference between giving up and knowing when you've had enough. Sometimes you have to move on to move forward, you don't need things (or people) who are constantly bringing you down anyways.

11. Great things take time. Just because something isn't happening to you right now doesn't mean it'll never happen. "It does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop"(Confucius)

and last but not the least

12. Remember that your older self is always cheering you on. I know It wont be easy, but it'll be worth it!

Love, Jessica
(yes you go by your girly first name now, although I kind of prefer when people call me Jess instead)

PS. Not lying about the deer!
Oh and no flying cars yet - bummer. Have to check on Mr. Weasley about that.
